Hope all is well at your house! We will not be able to make the Mini down Atlanta way. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is our Memorial Day weekend routine. This will be the 100th running of the race, and it's going to be a big deal for Indy fans!
Hi Bruce, You can't imagine how I choked up whrn I saw this, I live in Indianapolis - guess you were here a couple of weeks ago. Plese contact me - 317-696-6049.
In the deployment history you have CAW 17 for the Kitty Hawk on the 68-69 West Pac cruise. It was CAW 11. A pair of dice with a 6 and a 5 on a star was their logo in our cruise book. Just thought you'd like to know.
James, I'll have Rich Katuzin check that out. I believe he's been the historian and he's the one that sent me .pdf's to post.
Roger the reference that it was CAW 11. Jim Carpenter is correct. I have that "dice" patch.
I have a dozen on the orange VA-65 Squadron Ballcaps. $12 each at the reunion! I can get more if there's interest but I'll need about 10 days notice.
If you folks are reading the blog, which apparently some of you are, I need to get counts of those coming and how many are attending each of the events at the Cincinnati Reunion. If you have already sent me info, there's no need to do it again.
Tickets to the brewery Tour & Reds game are purchased online (less cash that I have to handle) see the Cincy Reunion page for the links.
You will need to send the memorial dinner money to me. Again info on the Cincy Reunion page.
All other dinners will be on your own even if we go as a group. I'm not planning that part. All other events are free but transportation costs will be split among the riders. The TriState Warbird Museum will be asking for donations.
I know many of you are looking forward to this reunion and so are Debby & I. We'll see y'all soon!!
I just filled out the Reunion Survey form. Sorry for not doing that sooner. You and Deb are doing a great job putting this all together! Should be something for everyone to do that's either fun or interesting! (or BOTH)
I hope everyone was able to enjoy our Cincy Reunion that Dan and Debbie Zeis did such a wonderful job of organizing. All shipmates that I spoke will gave it a 4.0 and gave thumbs up. We will be planning a Mini reunion for May 2017 at Brinker's in Indiana and our annual is planned to be in Missoure with Len Stone as our host. details and date will be posted on the website by January, 2017.....hope to see you all at these events. Have a safe and healthy rest of 2016. Your XO and communications officer, Doug (any questions, call at 518-852-3533 or email email@example.com)
Thanks for posting this early. I have every intention of getting to both reunions. I'll start getting this out to some of those who may not spend much time online or have not been able to attend for some reason.
Kitty Hawk West Pac 68/69 is missing I think.
There is a doc that I produced from footage and interviews from the 2003 reunion in Cleveland Oh.based mainly on the VA-65 crew members. I'll put it up on youtube soon for a link.
I have a group photo from that reunion in Medina....taken down by Steve's pond....we were there twice....we had Admiral Bob Mandeville there once.....great guy....I think I recall you interviewing some of the guys. Those were the early days of our reunions.
Hey Tigers! Walt Flanagan and Lennie Stone have been in touch with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. This years reunion is in St. Louis, Hosted by Len Stone 6-10 September 2017. Hotel details will be forthcoming on this site as well as on the VA-65 Facebook page. What we really need to know soon, like RIGHT AWAY, if you are coming and would want to take in a Baseball game between the St Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates. Walt has put a deposit down on a "Party Box" that will have food, beer, and soft drinks and, of course, a ticket for the game. It will be $100 per person and we need at least 20 folks to commit to attending or Walt will have to forfeit the deposit. This is a super deal! If anyone has been to a major league venue lately--you'll probably agree! If interested and willing to commit---you can email me at:firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 812-663-9532. Hope you can attend! Regards--Bruce Meyer
